The Battle of Gettysburg, the bloodiest battle ever fought on American soil, came composition the meat was hurting. The Confederacy slaughtered trade union forces at Fredericksburg and Chancellorsville. There was too the rumor of Lincolns resignation as chair that made many Union leaders consider a peaceful compromise with the Confederates. But the Union did have one and only(a) advantage heading into Gettysburg; frequent Stonewall Jackson had died in the Battle at Chancellorsville. Being one of the greatest attendant generals, this was a great loss for the Confederate war effort. A small barefoot confederate force stumbled into Gettysburg, Pennsylvania in search of shoes and supplies. There they encountered a Union occupying force. conflict broke out on June 30, 1863 which would lead to a genuinely important and decisive battle for the Union, the Battle of Gettysburg.
On July 1, 1863 Union and Confederate forces came running to Gettysburg after hearing the ensuing battle. The larger confederate force, led by General downwind, attacked the Union, led by General Meade, from the north. Meade replaced General Hooker as the commander of the integral Union army just 10 days before.



Meades forces, overwhelmed by the manpower of Lee, were pushed south of the town into a rough area where the rest of the Battle would be fought. As to each one army expanded by gaining reinforcements, they each set up their positions in the hills. At the center of the Union line was a long hill called Cemetery Ridge. Centered in the gist of the Confederate force was another long hill called Seminary Ridge. These ii ridges would be strong points for each side throughout this vicious, three-day battle.
