Celebrating Celebration One of the many Christian traditions that has become relatively quiet is the celebration of the Epiphany, or Twelfth Night, as it is sometimes called. This was a night of great celebration, as it was a remembrance of the Magi’s arrival at the birthplace of Christ, and it began the winter carnival season. In the time of Shakespeare, a play was written with this night in mind, and was appropriately titled, Twelfth Night. Now the play doesn’t have anything directly to do with the celebration for which it is named, and the only obvious connection is that it is thought that the first performance of this play was done on Twelfth Night, 1602. But there is a highly symbolic connection between the title and what ends up†¦show more content†¦One of the most notorious instances of this conflict was the Gunpowder plot, which actually took place several years after the first performance of Twelfth Night. The origins of this plot against the Protestant leaders of the natio n—originally Elizabeth I, and then her successor, James I—were the result of strict anti-catholic laws which, when James took power it was thought, were going to slacken. However, after a time, it appeared that the new king would be even more severe in the application of these laws than his predecessor. This enforcement of anti-catholic laws brings to the forefront the idea of ceremony, since that was one of the most drastic differences between the two religious cultures. Because the Catholic Church concentrated so much of its worship and power on ceremony, such as mass, it was abhorred by those Protestants and puritans who saw ceremony as frivolous and unnecessary. Thus the plot to destroy the king, queen, prince, and members of parliament was hatched. Thankfully the plot was discovered, and none of the intended targets were injured. Together with the challenges that come along with each stage of life, there is also an opportunity to embrace the beauty of life, and change. The participants of this interview were willing volunteers, and were provided with full disclosure. The first subject is a 31 year old female. She is married; they have one child, who is a 19 month old female. The participant is presently a stay at home mother, however, prior to childbirth she was employed full time and has an associates’ degree. When asked about a typical life event, she without hesitation said the birth of her child. She felt that was a typical life event, because she always wanted children, and friends her age were having children. A non-typical event was an incident when she slammed her pinky in the car door and broke her finger. She considered that as a non-typical event partially because that is usually not the sort of thing that happens to her, additionally, she felt it wasn’t a common occurrence fo r most other people. When asked what aging means to her, her response was primarily concerned with becoming physically older. It was interesting to hear her response regarding where she felt she was in the aging process. She felt it depended greatly upon who she was around at that moment. In conclusion, she shared that she views getting older as terrifying.
